Archive and dialogue

The core work of the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s research, dialogue and archive function is to generate an integrated and dynamic information resource on the life and times of Nelson Mandela, and to undertake the research and analysis required to support all Nelson Mandela Foundation functions.

Overview

The year 2015/2016 saw the achievement of two key objectives for the Archive and Dialogue Division: the oversight of the dialogue function supported by a dedicated full-time position; and the implementation of an integrated storage and access platform for the Foundation’s digital archive.

Dialogue was moved to the division at the beginning of the report period. In September 2015 the post, Dialogue Analyst and Coordinator was created and filled to support the function. Also at the beginning of the reporting period we recruited an Australian Volunteers International archivist to support the digitisation project for a year. In the first quarter of 2016 two staff were employed to process data for the project.
